wetherspoon halal response

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Halal products.

We use several meat products that are Halal approved. However, we cannot claim complete meals to be Halal as not all ingredients used in our dishes are Halal approved....

Menu items that contain Halal meat are as follows:
Butterfly Chicken Breast included in our Deli Sandwiches, BBQ Chicken Melt, Noodles with Chicken, Chicken Salads and Chicken Burger option.
Breaded Chicken Burger
Kids Chicken Nuggets
Crunchy Southern Fried Chicken Wrap and Starter
All Chicken Curries
Lamb Shoulder
Turkey for Sunday Roast
Lamb Chops in Mixed Grill

We are aware that there can be concerns about the slaughter process involved with Halal meat. We are advised that the animals are electrically stunned, prior to the slaughter process, which is in line with European Halal Development Agency standards and considered to be humane.

JD Wetherspoon is committed to providing our customers only with those products which meet the highest quality and safety standards. Our menu items are carefully selected products from suppliers based all over the world in order to provide our customers with an exciting range of food and drinks, which also provide excellent quality and value.

Thank you for your query and interest in JD Wetherspoon

  4. I'm not muslim & do not want my food dedicated to alah. I do not worship alah. This is religious prejudice.

  5. I am muslim and wouldn't eat at weatherspoons so don't worry yourselves, i am an british born convert too and have everyright to eat halal in my own country.

  6. It's worrying that non-superstitious people could be eating religious food without knowing it.

    Religion is ridiculous.

  7. Even MacDonalds, Burger King and Wimpy, where I would only buy food as an extreme last resort, say that they DO NOT sell Halal meat. So I am shocked that I may have eaten Halal(which I believe to be cruel)slaughtered meat in my local Wetherspoons. But what I most object to is the lack of labelling, which is dishonest.

  8. Clear food labeling should be a government priority in tje UK, so an individual can deide for themselves whether to support this barbaric form of slaughter!
The media crucified and named producers and stockists of Horse meat not so long ago! Why no public outrage at this covert denial of the publics freedom of choice? Because they are afraid of the backlash from the violence of the islamic faith and sit contented in their 'Ivory Towers' profiteering at the publics ignorance.

  9. I think it has to be clearer if it is Halal or not, in that way Halal eaters would be content and so would non Halal diners like myself.

  10. As a Christian I cannot eat meat sacrificed to other gods. Allah is not the God of Abraham Isaac or Jacob and he is certainly not the God of the Christians.

    1. "Allah is not the God of Abraham Isaac or Jacob"

Actually yes, he is. Allah is just an Arabic word that means "God". Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews use it too.

    2. Allah is NOT the god of Christians. We already had our own God, the father of Jesus Christ, who predates Allah by 7 centuries.

  12. why are they serving halal food in an establishment that serves alcohol. surely, the people who wish to eat halal wont be dining in a witherspoons establishment anyway. time companies woke up to the fact a lot of people are getting fed up with this country being turned into an Islamic republic by stealth. I for one wont ever set foot in another witherspoons establishment. lets see how well the company trades with its new favoured clientele

None of our food is certified as Halal. We have no plans to introduce Halal food in the future. All animals are stunned prior to slaughter and the process used complies with UK & EU legislation.

  14. A lot of Halal supporters, British Food Agencies and Government Departments are saying that Halal meat is now being stunned in UK Slaughter Houses, so we have now no need to worry about the Animals. The truth is that when they are stunned, it's a miniscule voltage that leaves them conscious - so they can hear the prayers being said. The Animal still dies in agony, terror and terrible suffering.

  15. why are we allowing this practice in the u.k. we are a Christian country and I do not want to eat meat that has had a prayer to allah said over it. these poor animals are eaten by the general public who would be outraged to know that the animal could have been left hanging 2-4 hours to die.to my knowledge muslims do not go into wetherspoons or any public houses as it is against their religion. shame on you wetherspoons I will boycott your pubs.

  16. I feel really sick to think my family and myself have eaten Halal food.
We have made a collective decision not to eat or drink here again.

  19. Hi.
Not really sure you feel the need to serve halal food in a PUB!
I really thought you were one of the few last bastions of decency and common sense.
As you have chosen profit to appease a minority over the not-unreasonable wishes of the vast majority of the British public, I and my family and friends will not be spending our money in your establishments again...not even for a drink.
Am really gutted you've done this.

You know, you absolutely have the power to turn this around and go for non-religiously slaughtered meat. Think about it...who are you going to upset?

  23. So glad we have our pages that do regular research on what's halal and what isn't,so thank you. I'm highly disgusted that I supported this company thinking they were patriotic and all for the true brits who are sick to death of having halal and Islam shoved down our throats at every turn, we have all done our research and know exactly what halal slaughter entails as well as the farce of halal stunning, their is no such thing as an unconscious animal at the time of death being halal, it has to be a recoverable stun which is worse than no stun at all and that's saying something, I really don't know what's happened to this country accepting religious torture over animal rights.

  24. Im absolutely disgusted to find this out and you can remove me and my entire family from your considered customers list I will never buy a beer or food from you and will change where I spend my weekends. Shame on you I hope your business suffers just like the animals you sell (cause its cheap) You Fail Bye Bye P.S I bet you get lots of business from practicing Muslims FAIL FAIL FAIL

  25. Disgusted that we are being deceived like this-I do not wish to eat halal meat ever - cruelly slaughtered meat in the name of Allah - stop pandering to the 3% and look after your own people for a change!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is any of the meat you serve halal?

We source our meat from a variety of suppliers, mostly in the UK and Ireland. All of our suppliers, regardless of their location, operate to strict EU animal welfare standards, requiring that all animals be rendered unconscious, before slaughter, so ensuring that they are killed humanely. This is an industry standard.

Animal welfare standards, in terms of food safety and quality, are integral to our sourcing requirements.

No suppliers have been requested to supply us with halal-certified meat; we have no plans to introduce this requirement in the future. In addition, our meals are not prepared or cooked to a halal standard.

  27. I note that this statement is dated 2011... as anything changed ? Have you taken halal off the menus?
